Course objectives

The objective of this course is to master basic engineering technologies such as casting, shaping, welding, glueing, machining. The course also outlines the principle of surface treatments such as metal plating, or enamelling, and how to prepare the base. The extensive issue of plastic processing is also being addressed. It is an explanatory training without any calculations.

• Foundry technologies. Mould construction, technological properties of metals.
• Casting. Cold and hot forming. Mechanism of plastic deformation. Materials used.
• Welding. Principles, processes in welded metal. Weldability. Types of welding.
• Soldering. Physical principle. Advantages, disadvantages, basic principles.
• Bonding. Coherence mechanism during glueing. Advantages and disadvantages. Types of glue.
• Surface treatments. Technological process. Surface preparation. Chemical surface treatments, coatings, enamelling.
• Plastic processing technology.
• Basics of machining. The principle. Basic terms. Cutting tools. Machinability of materials. Cutting fluids.
