What is the right team leadership style

From time to time, each manager asks a number of unanswered questions that are key to the organization's progress:

  • How to streamline the work of your team?
  • How to handle difficult situations and adapt your leadership style to them?
  • How to create a peaceful atmosphere in the team?

There are many more such questions and more than one manager can get lost in them. People management and delegation responsibilities are a rocket science. However, if the manager manages to do so, the quality of work and corporate culture will significantly improve. An important factor is the internal motivation not only of oneself and the people in the management, but also the motivation of every single part of the team. The leadership style used to communicate with employees can reinforce this factor, but it can also have the opposite effect.

Leadership styles

There are several different leadership styles whose basic goal is to create a culture in the organization, team and company. They are aimed at increasing performance and improving results for both individuals and the entire organization that covers them.

Authoritative leadership style

Authoritative leadership style is the least benevolent of later leadership styles. The manager acts according to his convictions, regardless of the additions and opinions of his subordinates. It is often an abuse of his position and the powers with which the manager covers his shortcomings - whether in experience or skills. He uses his superior position, different remuneration and sanctions or penalties to motivate his team. Authoritative style is appropriate in a new or undisciplined team, or in situations that require immediate decision.

Democratic leadership style

This style brings a lighter work atmosphere to the company. Working with people is based on two-way and fair communication, which is a basic characteristic of a democratic style. Each team member directly intervenes in the management, tasks and decisions related to the common goal. The manager processes this knowledge and then implements it into the project on which the team is working. However, trust, professional, cultural and social levels are important elements. In most cases, employees under this leadership feel freer, more valuable and happier.

Liberal leadership style

Freedom is a fundamental feature of the liberal leadership style. The manager postpones the specific work and leaves his team almost complete freedom in action and decision-making. They rely on their employees to define goals and then come up with solutions to help them achieve them. The manager often acts as a representative person and his basic role is to communicate with business partners. Liberal style can also have a negative result in the form of the promotion of personal interests and goals, non-fulfilment of assignments and impaired function of the workplace.

The manager is responsible for his leadership style. He chooses according to his priorities and goals. Employee feedback is a must when changing your approach to the team.
