Create a new future for your company with innovation management standards. It's about creating value and helping organizations constantly adapt and evolve. Innovation is not just about ideas, but mainly about their implementation.

Innovation is an increasingly important contributor to an organization's success and increases its ability to adapt to a changing world. New and innovative ideas lead to better ways of working as well as new solutions. Innovation generates revenue and improves sustainability. Innovation is closely linked to an organization's resilience in that it helps to understand challenging contexts and how to respond to them, seize opportunities and harness the creativity of its own people.

Big ideas and new inventions are often the result of a long series of small ideas and changes that are captured and directed in the most efficient way. One way to be able to constantly innovate can be to implement an innovation management system.

The innovation management system provides a systems approach to integrating innovation into all layers of organizations in order to take advantage of and create opportunities for the development of new solutions, systems, products and services. The first international standard for innovation management has just been published.

This is the ISO 56002 standard - Innovation management system. It covers all aspects of innovation management, from creating the first ideas to promoting and selling something new on the market. It takes into account the context in which the organization operates, culture, strategy, processes and influence. It goes through many types of activities, including products and services, business models, organizational innovation, and more. The requirements of the standard are applicable to all types of organizations, regardless of their size or type.
Alice de Casanova, chair of the ISO technical committee that drafted the standard, says ISO 56002 will help organizations increase business opportunities and performance in a number of ways:

Every organization that wants to manage its future must incorporate some aspects of innovation management. That is, it must evolve and adapt to keep pace with market and societal trends. The challenge is to find out what will give it a competitive advantage and create value for the future. This will indicate what strategic action to take. By providing guidance on how best to capture ideas, test them effectively, and manage risks and opportunities, ISO 56002 can help organizations create new value offerings and maximize their potential in a structured way.

ISO 56002 can also help instill a culture of innovation in an organization, leveraging the creativity and motivation of each member of the organization and ultimately improving collaboration, communication and company performance.

ISO 56002 complements two other documents in the series that have been recently published:

  • ISO 56003 Innovation management - Tools and methods for innovation partnerships
  • ISO/TR 56004 Evaluation of innovation management

Future additions to the series include:

  • ISO 56000, Innovation Management - Fundamentals and Vocabulary
  • ISO 56005, Innovation management - Intellectual property management tools and methods
  • ISO 56006, Innovation management - Strategic intelligence management
  • ISO 56007, Innovation management - Idea management

We believe that the innovative management system according to the ISO 56002 standard will soon be applied in Slovak companies as well, which we are currently preparing intensively for. By meeting the requirements of ISO 56002, companies are able to systematically apply innovation and change management within the company. We clearly recommend the implementation of this system to companies that have the ambition to grow and innovate their products and services.
