VDA stands for "Verband der Automobilindustrie" - literally translated as: Automotive Industry Association. The organization was founded in 1901. It is a German institution, a merger of car manufacturers and their suppliers consisting of more than 600 member companies. The main idea of this association is the research and production of modern, trouble-free and safe cars.
As is often the case in this area, many wise heads have put together many requirements, which are grouped into several manuals. We offer you an overview and an explanation of what it does and what you will find in it. You will find them all in English and German

It solves the suitability of measuring systems and measurement processes for the case when a tolerance is prescribed for the measured feature. The basis for the calculation of suitability is the measurement uncertainty, which is then taken into account when demonstrating compliance with the specified requirements. Furthermore, the volume contains instructions for the assessment of measurement processes with sorting, control processes with attributive features and a number of solved examples from the full range of the described issues. |
VDA 5.1 - Inline measuring technology for traceability in body construction |
2013 |
1. |
545 |
Follows VDA 5. The calculation of measurement uncertainties and the suitability of control systems and processes is specified in the production of body parts with special regard to control processes using automated and contactless control devices. |
VDA 5.2 - Suitability of testing processes for tightening torque of bolted joints |
2013 |
1. |
402 |
The manual provides a brief theory of prestressed bolted joints and a procedure for determining the measurement uncertainty and suitability of control systems and processes. |
VDA 6 - Certification requirements for VDA 6.1, VDA 6.2 and VDA 6.4 |
2016 |
6. |
671 |
Qualification of auditors to perform system audits of certification bodies, car manufacturers and suppliers |
VDA 6.1 - System audit |
5. |
648 |
(3rd party). Certification companies that perform 3rd party audits may issue a VDA 6.1 certificate if approved by the VDA. This edition meets the basic requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard and is supplemented, among other things, by the content of VDA "quality costs". | |
VDA 6.2 - Audit of the QM system, Services |
2017 |
3. |
495 |
(requirements specified in ISO 9001:2015 apply) |
VDA 6.3 - Process audit/series production |
2017 |
3. |
989 |
It contains a lot of new features and all the changes compared to the previous version. |
VDA 6.4 - Audit of quality management system, Means of production |
2017 |
3. |
593 |
The means of production are one of the major success factors in the automotive industry. The quality of means of production and tools, as well as cooperation with customers, are at the heart of these industry-specific rules. The issue of ISO 9001:2015 initiated the need to update the VDA 6.4 standard, as this specific standard is based on ISO 9001. |
VDA 6.5 - Product audit |
2008 |
2. |
406 |
The new edition focuses on the requirements of ISO 19011. It provides guidance for managing a product audit program that allows organizations to create their own product system. As one of the links in the process chain, a product audit should demonstrate the quality level of internally or externally produced products. |
VDA 7 - Information sharing in the world of quality |
2017 |
2. |
428 |
The VDA working group, composed of representatives of the automotive industry and companies specializing in information technology, studied the issue of exchanging information on quality and methods of their processing. |
VDA 13 - Development of software-controlled systems |
2004 |
1. |
536 |
It contains requirements for the creation of processes and projects in the development of software-driven systems in the automotive industry. |
VDA 14 - Preventive methods of quality management in the field of processes |
2008 |
1. |
647 |
This guide is intended to help achieve greater confidence in the selection and use of preventive quality management methods. From the results of extensive international surveys, the relevant VDA working team has developed a procedure that allows both the appropriate choice of method for a given use case or problem solution, and the estimation of the effect. |
VDA 16 - Decorative surfaces of built-in and functional parts in the field of exterior and interior of cars |
2016 |
3. |
561 |
It serves as the basis for negotiations between the car manufacturer (OEM) and the supplier on the specification of the decorative surfaces. It also serves to unambiguously describe the decorative surfaces of the product to prevent process failures in customers and suppliers caused by inaccurate or missing gauges. |
VDA 19.1 - Technical purity testing |
2015 |
2. |

Here you will find several trainings that serve as an explanation of the requirements of specific manuals enriched by the experience of practitioners:
In June 2019, a new harmonized FMEA manual was published jointly by AIAG and the VDA. All changes and innovations are taken over at the FMEA training according to the new harmonized AIAG & VDA manual.
AIAG members and Odette - together with established industry partners and stakeholders have decided to release a new version of MMOG/LE, in order to support the following objectives for a more stable and predictable supply chain.

MoreRecently, we have begun to accumulate events that we are not used to in our latitudes. Apart from the pandemic, we have certainly all caught a tornado in Moravia and other extreme weather events. ISO 22301 specifies business continuity requirements and rules and helps companies recover quickly from unforeseen events. Its aim is to prepare companies and protect them in the event of such an exceptional unforeseen event.
