What is ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 is an international standard for a Quality Management System (QMS). This norm establishes criteria for creating, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving an effective QMS.

Purpose of ISO 9001

The purpose of ISO 9001 is to provide organizations with a framework they can adhere to, ensuring consistent fulfillment of customer requirements and enabling the enhancement of customer satisfaction. The ISO 9001 standard presents various requirements that organizations must fulfill to obtain certification:

• Defining the scope of the QMS and documenting the required processes and procedures.
• Establishing a quality policy and measurable objectives consistent with the organization's strategic direction.
• Identifying and addressing customer needs and expectations, as well as those of other interested parties.
• Implementing processes for controlling and monitoring the operation and activities of the organization.
• Ensuring employee competence through training and development.
• Monitoring and measuring processes and products to ensure they meet specified requirements.
• Implementing a system for documentation and control of quality records.
• Establishing a process for continual improvement of the QMS effectiveness.
• Conducting regular internal audits and undergoing external audits by certification bodies to assess compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.

By implementing the ISO 9001 standard, organizations can enhance their overall performance, increase customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, and demonstrate their commitment to quality to customers and other interested parties.
