MSA stands for Measurment System Analysis, which is used in mass production to determine whether the measured data and values can be considered reliable and how effective the measurement is. The MSA method was originally developed for the automotive industry, but its applicability has now been extended to many fields.
This analysis attempts to identify any uncertainties in the entire measurement process, but it can also be used to assess the instrument itself. It assumes that not only a good and accurate gauge is not sufficient for efficiency, but also other influences that may affect the measurement as a whole must be taken into account. The purpose of MSA is to gain process knowledge that is necessary for process control and demonstrating production quality. Thus, MSA can also be used to influence the quality of products or to avoid the production of non-conforming pieces.
