Malware is an abbreviation for Malicious Software. Malware is a type of computer program designed to attack software, granting the attacker access to the user's device. Its purpose may be to cause damage, steal data, or monitor the user. Types of malwares include computer viruses, spyware, adware, phishing, trojans, rootkits, and more.
Malware most commonly spreads over the internet to unprotected devices, mainly through clicking on infected websites or downloading unsecured files, games, music files, or free services.
If a user has antivirus software, it is relatively simple to detect malware, as the software itself will alert the user to the risk of infection. The infected file is then either moved to quarantine or removed, thus separating it from everything else and preventing further harm.
For devices without any antivirus protection, it becomes more complicated. Changes in software can sometimes be vague, but the device may experience slowdowns, program crashes, various pop-up windows, or memory overload, which may show signs of damage, especially in older devices. Illegally installed programs can cause errors in other programs.
The best way to get rid of malware is to use a reliable malware removal tool, which is often included in high-quality antimalware software.
