What is ISO?
ISO, which stands for the International Organization for Standardization, is an international organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, founded on February 23, 1947. What are ISO standards?
You can think of an ISO standard as a guide or manual that describes the best way to do something. It may cover product manufacturing, process management, service delivery, or material supply - the standards span a wide range of activities. These standards are comprehensive and organized knowledge from people with expertise in their respective fields, who understand the needs of the organizations they represent - such as manufacturers, sellers, buyers, customers, trade associations, users, or regulatory bodies.
What are the most commonly used ISO standards?
Among the most well-known and widely used ISO standards are:
- ISO 9001 - Quality management system - helps improve work efficiency and reduces product or process failures.
- ISO 14001 - Environmental management system - helps reduce negative environmental impact, decrease waste production, and enhance sustainability.
- ISO 45001 - Occupational health and safety management system - helps reduce the number of accidents and injuries in the workplace.
- ISO 27001 - Information security management system - helps keep confidential information secure.
